Energy waste and recovery

Energy waste.Energy recovery from waste is a controversial field full of questions. What is more important, or what should have priority, to find new alternatives to energy supply, or to reduce our energy waste?

What are the available technologies to extract energy from waste and rubble? If we can get energy from other peoples waste, then what is the residue of those processes of obtaining more energy? Can a waste processing plant sustain itself from the waste processed? How are the industrialized countries managing their own waste? Who is doing it the best? Is it always true that energy from waste  systems (EfW) are simply incinerators that pollute the surrounding areas?
